Scopa the card game for a true Italian experience!

Scopa the card game for a true Italian experience!

There are many card games that can be enjoyed by people of all ages, but few deliver an experience as true to Italy as Scopa. This classic game is believed to have originated in the country many centuries ago and its popularity remains to this day.

Scopa is a game that can be enjoyed by two or four players and typically lasts around half an hour. The aim of the game is to score points by taking cards from the table that match those in your hand. The player with the most points at the end of the game is the winner.

To get started, each player is dealt a hand of seven cards. The rest of the cards are placed face down in the middle of the table to form the stock pile. The player who was dealt the highest card begins and play passes clockwise around the table.

On a player's turn, they must take one or more cards from either the stock pile or from any other player's hand. If they take cards from the stock pile, they must place them face up on top of the pile. If they take cards from another player's hand, they must place them face down in front of them.

When a player takes a card from another player's hand, they can either claim it as part of their set (three or more cards of the same rank) or wild (a card that can be used as any rank). If they claim it as part of their set, they take another turn immediately. If they claim it as wild, they can use it as any rank for their next turn.

If a player cannot or does not wish to take any more cards, they must discard one card from their hand and play passes to the next player. When all players have had their turn, the dealer replenishes their hand back up to seven cards from the stock pile and play passes to the left for the next round.

The game continues until all but one player has no cards left in their hand - at this point, the last player with cards remaining is said to have "lost", and therefore doesn't score any points for that round. The aim is to score as many points as possible over a series of rounds - typically five or six rounds are played. At end of each round, players add up any sets and/or wilds that they've collected and record these on a score sheet. The winner is then determined by adding up all of their points across all rounds played.

What is Scopa?

Scopa is a traditional Italian card game that has been around for centuries. It's a popular game in many countries, and Casino offers it as one of its online casino games. The objective of the game is to score points by taking cards from the table that match the cards in your hand, as well as capturing Jacks, Queens, and Kings. If you take all of the cards from the table, you win a special Scopa bonus.

How to Play

The game is played with a regular deck of 52 cards. You are dealt 7 cards, which are your hand. The rest of the deck is placed face down in the middle of the table, and this forms the stock. The player opposite you starts the game by playing one card face up on the table. The aim is to take one or more cards from the table that match those in your hand, as well as any Jacks, Queens, or Kings. You can either take all of the cards on the table ("scopa"), or just one or more if they match what you need. If you take all of the cards, you win a Scopa bonus on top of whatever else you may have won in that hand. If someone else takes all of the cards first, then you lose points instead!

After playing a card, the player passes to their left. When it's your turn again, you draw one card from the stock to replenish your hand back up to 7 cards. The game continues until all of the cards have been played, and then whoever has won most hands (or scored most points) wins overall.

How to Play Scopa – The Ultimate Guide

If you're looking for an entertaining card game to play that's also easy to learn, Scopa is a great option. This classic Italian game is played with a deck of 52 cards, and the goal is to score as many points as possible by taking cards from the table.

Here's how to play:

  • Deal seven cards to each player, and place the remaining cards in the center of the table face down.
  • Turn over one card from the deck and set it next to the other face-up cards on the table. This card is called the "scopa".
  • The player to the left of the dealer starts the game by taking either a card from the table or from the scopa.
  • If they take a card from the table, they place it in front of them. If they take a card from the scopa, they set it aside and draw another card from the deck.
  • Play then passes to the left. The player who collects the most cards at the end of the hand wins that round.
  • The first player to win two rounds wins the game.
